To Become a Member
You must be eighteen years of age or elder, of good character and either, a citizen
of Bahamas, a permanent resident with the right to engage in gainful occupation
or a permanent resident holding a valid work permit.
You must also
1. Provide evidence that you are a member in good standing of an approved institute
(refer to the Second Schedule of the BICA Act, 2015)
or have satisfied the requirements for admission to membership in an approved institute.
2. Have passed the prescribed examinations as Council may require.
3. Provide evidence that you have been in continuous employment for two years
or more with either a firm of public accountants or a public corporation, a
government department or a private business that has provided training in
accounting.
4. Upload a passport sized photograph.
5. Pay the Member application fee.
6. Satisfy such other requirements as may be prescribed.
OR
1. Have passed the prescribed qualifying examinations of the institute.
2. Provide evidence that you have been in continuous employment for two years or more with either
a firm of public accountants or a public corporation, a government department or a
private business that has provided training in accounting.
3. Provide a certified copy of a Bachelor's Degree held by you from an institution approved by Council.
4. Upload a passport sized photograph.
5. Pay the Member application fee.
6. Satisfy such other requirements as may be prescribed.
To Become an Associate
To register as an Associate you must not be a citizen of The Bahamas or a permanent resident and must be:
(a) eighteen years of age or older;
(b) of good character;
(c) a member in good standing of an approved institute (refer to the Second Schedule
of the BICA Act, 2015) or of an accounting body accepted by the Council and
(d) in possession of a valid work permit.
If you are not a citizen of The Bahamas or a permanent resident and meet conditions (a) and (b), in spite of the other requirements, you may be registered as an Associate, upon application in writing and payment of the prescribed fee, if Council deems you to be a fit and proper person to be registered as an Associate and your registration to be in the best interest of the Institute.
You must also
1. Provide a letter from the secretary of an approved institute confirming that you are in good standing.
2. Provide proof of residency and a copy of a valid work permit, if applicable.
3. Upload a passport size photograph.
&
4. Provide a recommendation in writing from two members of BICA (Proposer and Seconder), worded as follows:
We certify that [name of applicant] is a fit and proper person to be registered as an associate of The Bahamas institute of Chartered Accountants and fulfills the requirements under the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants Act.
5. Pay the Associate application fee.
To Become a Student
You must be of good character and pursuing a formal course of instruction and systems of training in accounting which will lead to you satisfying the requirements of membership of an approved institute or taking steps to satisfy academic and professional requirements for admission to membership in an approved institute.
You must also
1. Upload a passport size photograph.
2. Provide a certified copy of your transcript or other academic certifications which support that you are pursuing training in accounting which will lead to membership in an approved institute.
&
3. Obtain a recommendation in writing from two members of BICA (Proposer and Seconder), worded as follows:
We certify that [name of applicant] is a fit and proper person to be registered as a student of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and fulfills the requirements under the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants Act.
To Become a Fellow
To become a Fellow you must have been a Member for a continuous period of ten (10) years or more.
You must also
1. Provide a recommendation in writing from two members of BICA (Proposer and Seconder), worded as follows:
We certify that [name of applicant] is of good character and is qualified to be registered as a Fellow of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and fulfills the requirements under the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants Act.
2. Pay the Fellowship application fee.
&
Council may also require
1. Evidence as to continuing professional development.
2. Evidence as to any disciplinary findings or orders against you.
3. Such other information and evidence as the Council sees fit.
To Register as a Firm
You must be a "firm of public accountants" whereby each sole practitioner or proprietor, partner, or with respect to a body corporate, each equity owner engages in public practice.
You must also
1. Provide evidence of the academic and professional qualifications of the partners or shareholders.
2. Provide evidence of insurance coverage as required by the Regulations.
&
3. Pay the Firm initial registration fee.
4. Provide any other information as the Council may from time to time require.
To Become a Licensee
You must be a citizen
of the Bahamas or a permanent resident with the right to engage in gainful occupation
or a permanent resident holding a valid work permit.
You must also
1. Be a Member of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants ("BICA").
2. Have satisfied the prescribed public practice requirements.
3. Engage in public practice either alone or as a owner in a firm or partnership of public accountants.
&
4. Satisfy such other requirements as may be prescribed.
5. Submit a recommendation from a public accountant certifying to the best of their knowledge that you are of good character.
6. Submit evidence supporting that, for a cumulative period of thirty-six months, you have met the requisite public practice requirements.
7. Pay the Licence application fee (see Schedule of Fees).
